Evan Rachel Wood was born on September 7, 1987 in Raleigh, North Carolina to parents Ira David Wood III and Sara Lynn Moore. She also has 2 brothers, Dana and Ira David IV. Both her parents are actors and Evan's father is the founder and executive director of the prestigious Theater in The Park, which is located in Raleigh. Since Evan was practically born into the acting world, it didn't take her long to get started!
Her first appearance on stage was at the age of 3 as a rabbit in the play Briar Patch. She had many other stage roles at the Theater in the Park, such as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and A Christmas Carol. Between stage performances, her family was commuting between North Carolina and California for auditions. In 1994, she lost the role of Claudia in Interview with a Vampire to Kirsten Dunst at the age of 7.
In 1996, when Evan was 9, her parents were divorced and she moved with her mother to California. Not long after, she landed many movies including Digging to China and Practical Magic, as well as TV guest appearances on Touched By An Angel, American Gothic, and Profiler.
Her big break came when she was cast as Jessie Sammler on the ABC drama Once and Again where she played the daughter of divorced parents who dealt with her father's new romance, anorexia, an attraction to a female friend, and other heavy issues.
In the past few years, she has had a blossoming movie career with leading roles in Little Secrets, alongside Al Pacino in S1m0ne, and a kidnapped girl in the western thriller with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett, The Missing. In her recent critically acclaimed role, she played Tracy - a young girl trying to grow up too fast - in Thirteen. Her portrayel of Tracy won her nominations for Best Actress at the SAG and Golden Globe Awards.
